The Costa Fiorita on Lake Maggiore - a photographic floral calendar
The glorious microclimate of this end of Lake Maggiore around Agra and Luino is ideal for gardens and flora, to the point where this area has earned the title of "Costa Fiorita" - the Flower Coast. From native palm trees to blazing azaleas, this area is famous for its floral colour. So here is a floral "calendar" of some of our beautiful plants. Plan your stay to coincide with the flowering of your favourites: bring your camera or your paints!

JANUARY
January: catkins. Take a stroll through the woodlands in January under crystal blue skies and the catkins already adorning the branches around you
FEBRUARY
February: camelias. Different species of camelias can be seen at various times of the year, but in February they bring welcome colour to the sleeping gardens
Magnolias. Drive around this area in February, and every garden you see is likely to have a fountain of white blossom set against bare branches
...or palest pink! The climate of the Costa Fiorita around Lake Maggiore is ideal for these glorious flowers
MARCH
In March the magnolias are still at their peak - this is a star magnolia.
But it's also when the mimosas blossom: delicate trees with cascades of yellow!
...as well as the more familiar intensity of forsythia bushes
...and the delicate yellow of the wild primroses which carpet the woodlands...
