The Italian Lake District - a photographic calendar of the floral year
The flower coast on Lake Maggiore in the Italian Lake District is rightly famous for its stunning flora. We hope that this photographic calendar of some of the seasonal delights may inspire you when you're deciding when to book your stay in Casa Lunga's holiday flat!

Not strictly floral, but flora: this is the month that the grapes are finally ripe. In 2008, after dozens of people had already picked their fill to take home, we still harvested over 120kg of grapes from the three vines on Casa Lunga's pergola...
Casa Lunga's holiday flat is surrounded by sweet chestnut woodlands. Collect some to roast!
...or enjoy some of the other autumnal fruits, and the local festas to celebrate them. The photo was taken at Agra's annual pumpkin festival ("Festa della Zucca"): down in Germignaga there's a chestnut festival, and others besides!
NOVEMBER
In November the winter camelias start flowering again
and the chrysanthemums.
But most of all, November is glorious for its autumn (fall) colours and frequent crystal blue skies. Perfect for guests at Casa Lunga who enjoy walking and mountain biking!
DECEMBER
By December, the Japanese Persimmon trees really come into their true glory. The fruit, as you can see from the photo above, start ripening in November, but it is in December that they can be most appreciated, when all the leaves have fallen away, and the fruit - nature's Christmas baubles! - can be seen from miles away with their vivid orangey-red.
The mature heather banks in Casa Lunga's garden provide colour all year round.
